PDF to JPG

Convert a PDF into JPG pictures, one per page, at 72, 110, 150 or 200 DPI, taking every page or only the ones you list. The pages are drawn on Docubox's servers, and downloading the JPG files requires a free account (Google or an emailed code, no password).

How to convert PDF to JPG

  1. Add your PDF. Drag it onto the upload box or pick it from your device. A run handles 1 PDF, and it has to open without asking for a password.
  2. Check the options. They appear under the file once you add it. Output format is already set to JPEG on this page. Resolution (DPI) offers 72, 110, 150 and 200, and starts at 150. Pages starts on all.
  3. Pick the pages if you do not want all of them. Type one page number, such as 3, or a list like 1-3, 5. A range can be open at the end, so 7- means page 7 to the last page.
  4. Select Convert to JPEG. The PDF is uploaded to private storage, and our servers then render one JPG per chosen page while the page shows a running count of finished pages.
  5. Sign in, then download. The result page asks you to sign in with Google or an emailed code; accounts are free and have no password. After that you can preview every JPG, download the ones you want, or choose Save to my documents to keep them.

When to use PDF vs JPG

A PDF keeps its text, layout and pages together in one file. A JPG is a single flat picture, so a PDF with many pages becomes many pictures, one for each page.

  • Choose JPG when you need a picture of a page. Pictures drop into slides, web pages, chat messages and image editors, and nearly every app can open a JPG.
  • Keep the PDF when you need the words. In a JPG the words are part of the picture, so you cannot select, search or copy them, and Docubox does not read the text on your pages when it makes the images. If the PDF already contains text, Extract PDF text pulls it out.
  • JPG or PNG for a page. JPG makes smaller files and suits pages that are mostly photographs. It is lossy, so small text and thin lines can pick up faint smudging. For pages that are mostly text, switch Output format to PNG here, or open the full PDF to images tool.
  • Match the resolution to the job. DPI means pixels per inch of the page: raise it for more detail and a larger file, lower it for a smaller one. 72 suits thumbnails, 110 is comfortable for reading a page on screen, 150 works for everyday sharing and slides, and 200, the highest, is for fine print or zooming in.

Things to know

  • One JPG per page. A PDF called report.pdf gives files such as report-page-3.jpg, listed in page order. Nothing is zipped. On the result page you can preview each image, download it by itself, save it, or save all of them to My documents with one button.
  • Page numbers are positions, not printed labels. Page 1 is always the first page of the file, even if a different number is printed on it. Listing a page twice still gives one image of it. Text instead of numbers, a reversed range such as 5-2, or a page beyond the last one is refused, and a message tells you why.
  • White background, fixed quality. Each page is drawn on white, with its comments and form fields drawn in. A page that is rotated inside the PDF stays rotated. The JPG quality is preset, and there is no slider for it.
  • Oversized pages may be drawn smaller than you asked. A poster or large drawing can come out below the DPI you picked so that the image stays within a size limit, and the result page shows a note when that happens.
  • Limits. The PDF can be up to 25 MB and 50 pages long, and the limit counts the whole PDF, not the pages you pick. A longer PDF is rejected even if you ask for page 1. If the images together would be too large, the conversion stops with a message suggesting fewer pages.
  • PDFs that need a password do not convert. The job fails with a message asking you to remove the password and try again. A PDF that merely limits printing, copying or editing opens fine.

If your PDF is longer than that, Split PDF takes longer files, so you can cut out the section you want first and convert that instead.

Frequently asked questions

Is the PDF to JPG converter free?

Yes. Signing up is free, a free account gets 10 conversions a day, and you are never asked to pay before your images appear. Pro costs $9.99 a month and includes 500 conversions a month (the free plan has 10 a day), plus 25 GB of saved documents. A PDF with many pages still counts as one conversion.

Can I convert just one page of a PDF to JPG?

Yes. Type the page number in Pages before you convert, such as 3, and you get a single JPG for that page. You can also type a range like 2-6 or a list like 1-3, 5. Leave Pages on all to get every page.

Can I download all the JPG files at once?

There is no single download for them. Each JPG has its own Download button on the result page, and one extra button saves the whole set to My documents. Because nothing is zipped, getting every page onto your device means pressing Download once per image.

What makes a PDF fail to convert?

A PDF fails if it needs a password to open, is damaged, is not really a PDF, or has more than 50 pages. The page limit counts the whole PDF, not just the pages you picked. A PDF that only restricts printing or editing converts normally.

Do I need to sign in to download the JPG files, and do they expire?

Yes. Viewing and downloading the result requires a free account, which you sign in to with Google or an emailed one-time code. The PDF you uploaded and the JPG files are both temporary: access ends 24 hours after you start, and downloading does not extend it. To keep a copy, choose Save to my documents; it stays until you delete it.
